Design Challenge 1: Choose Your Own Adventure
Objective: Make GoGuardian less obtrusive and more responsive. Empathy Work: We already knew our users and the problems with the system as users ourselves. We also knew the problems by hearing complaints from other users in the past. Prototyping: We only went through one iteration that we consistently built upon. No more were made because we never made it to the testing stage. Brainstorming: See Slides. Testing: None. Presentation: None. |
We chose to try and improve our school's web-filtering software. |
Conclusion: This project was mostly a failure due to bad planning and poor time management. In addition, we lost one of our three members who decided to work on a different project during the beginning of the project. Having only two members and poor management made this a failure. This may be picked up in the future but it is doubtful.
Design Challenge 2: Bridge The Gap
Objective: To create a more mixed community between freshmen and sophomores. Empathy Work: We interviewed both freshmen and sophomores to see what their opinions were on how close and how mixed the freshman and sophomore groups were. The results were disparate. Some saw a large gap while others saw none at all. Each had their own opinion of the other grade ranging from "chill" and friendly to racist and sexist. Prototyping: We revised our idea multiple times but we did not actually go through a full change due to the fact that we only tested once. Brainstorming: We discussed amongst each other about what we should do based on the information we gathered. We came up with multiple ideas but only picked one. Testing: We tested our idea once. I would say it was a success in terms of planning and execution but as to whether or not it addressed the objective, one test was not enough to create a noticeable difference. Judging by what was seen during the test, this idea could work if done repeatedly but it is unknown due to how difficult it is to set up |
Presentation: See above. Conclusion: Although this may be a good idea, the amount of time and effort it takes causes many setbacks making it a slow process for even four people to arrange. If there were a better or faster way to do this it may be worth adopting but otherwise the process is far too tedious to do more testing. This challenge may be kickstarted again but it is unlikely due to minuscule results. Personal Notes: I was less at the forefront of this project and if anything it was more of the exact opposite. More of the setup was done by those who were leading and I was more involved in just the execution. |
Design Challenge 3: Banksy Art Project

Design Challenge 4: Designtech High School Subreddit
Objective:To create a social hub which will help boost students' productivity & build community.
Empathy Work: Not much empathy work was really done because not much was actually needed. Many students are already familiar with Reddit but for those who weren't, guides were made in advance to assist them. Some interviews were conducted but they were informal, quick, and did not contribute much to the project. Overall, I was going to go through with this unless the backlash became very heavy. Prototyping: One prototype was made but it was revised and edited many times. You can see the first product and the finished result in the slideshow to the right. |
